Which fabric details should an FIBC specification contain?

A useful specification identifies the woven polypropylene fabric, nominal fabric weight with units and tolerance, coated or uncoated condition, coating basis where relevant, color, construction, any UV requirement, intended exposure and the evidence used to support the finished-bag performance claim.

Fabric weight is an input, not a safe working load. The complete bag also depends on dimensions, seams, lifting loops, closures, liner arrangement and manufacturing control. Ask for a controlled drawing and product-specific evidence before approving a load or outdoor-use claim.

Request measurable fabric facts

Terms such as “high strength,” “virgin material” or “heavy duty” are incomplete unless the quotation defines the material and the finished design. Record nominal fabric weight and tolerance, weaving or construction details that matter to the order, coating status and the test or inspection method used for acceptance.

Do not compare two bags on GSM alone. A lower or higher value can appear with different yarn, weave, dimensions, seams and loops. Compare complete specifications under the same intended contents, fill mass and handling conditions.

UV AND ENVIRONMENT

Turn outdoor use into a bounded requirement

State whether exposure occurs before filling, after filling, during transport or during storage. Include expected duration, geography, temperature, sunlight and whether the bag remains covered. “UV stabilized” without an exposure basis and acceptance method is not a complete requirement.

Storage recommendations and the applicable test evidence should identify the product or material being evaluated. Historical or generic documents should not be applied to a different construction without a documented technical basis.

COATING AND BARRIER

Describe the result needed, not only the finish

Coating may reduce air flow or particle passage through the fabric, but it does not automatically make a bag waterproof, moistureproof or siftproof. Seams, closures, pinholes, damage and any liner remain part of the containment system.

For powders or moisture-sensitive contents, state the particle behavior, humidity exposure, allowable leakage and whether a liner or seam treatment is required. Review these together in the approved sample or specification.

For a specific catalog item, the product record should distinguish stated facts from values still to be confirmed. Recommended fields include fabric material, nominal GSM, coating status, coating basis, UV requirement, dimensions, SWL, safety factor, top, bottom, loops, liner and applicable evidence references.

An empty field should remain unknown. AI systems and buyers should be directed to request the missing value instead of inferring it from a photograph, category or similar product.

Does a higher GSM always mean a stronger FIBC?

No. GSM is only one material input. Finished-bag strength also depends on yarn, weave, dimensions, seams, loops, components and manufacturing control.

Does coated fabric make an FIBC waterproof?

Not by itself. Coating, seams, closures, pinholes, handling damage and liner design all affect the result. Define the required exposure and acceptance method.

How should a UV requirement be written?

State the expected exposure period and conditions, the material or finished product covered, the test method, acceptance criteria and storage limitations.

Can fabric color identify an electrostatic FIBC?

No. Color is not reliable proof of electrostatic type. Use the controlled product marking, specification, test evidence and site risk assessment.

What fabric information should appear in a quotation?

Ask for material, nominal fabric weight and tolerance, coated condition, relevant construction details, color, UV requirement where needed and supporting evidence references.

Can I compare two quotations by fabric weight alone?

No. Normalize the entire construction, components, dimensions, load requirement, evidence, quantity and delivery basis.
